Nigeria: Angry Youths Occupy Oil Installation

DOI 11 April 2008

AP (YENAGOA)— On 11 April 2008, Shell spokeswoman Caroline Wittgen said that militant youths occupied a Royal Dutch Shell PLC oil installation in southern Nigeria, shutting down its production of 5,000 barrels a day. The rising numbers of militant attacks cut about 20 percent of Nigeria’s normal petroleum output, and help send oil prices toward all-time highs. Militant leader Henry Okah is on trial for treason and other crimes, and the main militant group is promising further attacks.
